How remove pulley bolt on an Auto/oil pump removal

I've had an oil leak for a few weeks its not terrible - a few drops when left and a mist on the rear tail gate after a long drive. I think its an MOT failure now. Looks like it's from behind the pulley, I think its either the seal or pump as the filler mounting is dry. I went out to change the seal, cheerfully thinking it'dbe a half hour job. Haynes says to put it in gear to lock the pulley but being an auto this method doesn't work. Any advice?

looking from the pulley toward the front of your T25
top left (11 Oclock) of engine block is a hole about 30mm in diameter into the flywheel housing
I use a deep 13mm socket on a short extension onto one of the drive plate bolt heads (turn your pulley slowly with 30mm spanner till one of the 3 bolt heads appears in the hole
then just push socket onto the head and you should be able to loosen/tighten the bottom pulley.
if it's single pulley like my DG it's not super tight at 60 nm

Rick

That worked a treat. When I was prizing out the seal a circle of spring (behind it) came out as well. It's been deformed in two places. Can I get replacements ?

the springy part is part of the seal
it keeps the lip in contact with the crank

Thanks Mate. I'd just looked at the new one and realised it was integral. Hoping to delete post to avoid looking like an idiot!

Moving on swiftly..time to start a politics thread here and get this deleted..but the tip on locking the flywheel is great. Annoyingly the biggest socket I have is 34mm - too small to knock the seal in

I cut a piece of 18mm ply then bored a hole in it for crank to fit through
Can't remember size but it worked a treat

Good idea-with the engine still in your way gives more space for mallet to swing. I was wondering whether I'd get enough impetus on it.

I pulled seal in using pulley bolt and old bearing races I have lying about.

I had a leak in that area, it was the second oil pressure switch for the DOPS system, tricky to find. I hope it isn't that after the work you have done

on inspection of the old seal it didnt look like much was wrong. The engine I have fitted is an early DG despite it being a late van - I don't think it that 2nd sensor?

Early case didn't have the second sensor so it can't be that... phew

I'm going to do the oil pump as well - hopefully that'll sort the leak

Check your oil breather tower and the pipe to the air intake.
Mine was blocked, causing excess preassure in the crankcase... the pressure pushed oil past the seal.
