Air cooled 2.0 Litre cu engine flush

Hi i have not posted on here for ages, but would like your thoughts on the following, i am going to remove the engine from my Devon Moonraker and fit new pistons and barrels, hydraulic lifters, and strip and clean up the heads etc. Before i remove the engine i was going to stick a can of flushing fluid in and then drain off the oil, i was not planning on touching the bottom end of the engine but thought this would give it a good clean out, i change the oil every 3000 miles .

Is this a good idea or bad as i have heard mixed thoughts on this.

Many thanks Ian :ok

I would always flush it out. I’d even take off the sump and clean out the strainer will give you a view of the bottom end too

Hi thanks for the reply.

Makes sense that i could have a look at the bottom end while i'm at it, i will probably replace the strainer as well.

Many thanks again for your reply Ian

You should clean / replace the oil strainer at every oil change (it's not a consumable)
