Check your jacking points.

This happened today as l was using VW jack.

Luckily van was only just on the way up and with wheel on axle. But when it went, it threw jack around and then under van. And in the process took out a bit of rusty wheel arch. A little shocked to be honest as l tend to rely on van jack without alternative support. No way again!

But time to get grinder & welder out and fit a new jacking point.

However, my confidence in using VW jack has hit the south pole. So seeking an alternative for on the road repairs.....
Bottle jack or trolley jack instead.? Your views please?

Regards
Stuart

I never use factory jacks, just not up to the job and too slow. Trolley jack for me, bottle jack is OK, with the T25 you'll probably need wooden blocks as well. There is a thread about recommended jacks

Glad you weren't injured

I've got a variety of jacks that I buy of ebay when I see them at the right price. Have a look for Elliot and Lake, good old English kit, also Weber supplied with vw and merc vans. You can't have too many jacks especially when they don't cost the earth second hand.

Thanks to all. A bit shaken but fine.
Will add trolley jacket to inventory.

On a different van had to revert to this last year when drive shaft worked itself loose.
Do you reckon a porta potty would take weight if jack failed?

This is what I use - I need the low access for other cars and the lighter weight is handy.

Not quite as tall as the SGS one at max extension (~2" lower at lowest height as well as max) but the fast jack action is useful as are the side handles.

Gumtree £15.00 2000kg TUV approved and in plastic case too. A bit compact but will load an axle stand too. Will invest in something a bit more robust nearer christmas.
