Having finally sealed a badly fitted/helicoiled sump plug, I am loathed to disturb the plug again.
Ideally like to change oil by pulling it out with a sump pump. Usually do this by running pump pipe down dipstick tube.
Having looked at photos of cases can't work out if dipstick/tube will get me access to bottom of sump?
Any other route to bottom of sump?

I guess I could just pump out and see how much I get, should be be approx 4 litres?

My sump plug was stubborn to the extent I wasn't going to risk it so using an extractor pump via the filler tube I managed to extract near enough 4.25ltrs. Took a while and better done when oil is warm.

Now my plug has been free'd off when it was up on a hoist I don't think I'd choose to go down the extractor route again.

Ahem, finally got round to oil change.
Poked the pipe down dipstick tube until it came to a stop (assumed bottom of sump).
No idea how much came out but 4.5 litres went back in including filter.
All done from the top, no scrabbling around on the floor!

well done but give yourself a slap for not changing the oil more regularly

I know, I know, usually do it once a year no matter the mileage but have done so few in the past 2 years.
Having said that the mileage has gone up quite considerably (in comparison) now that I have replaced a certain grease cap

Oil changes = Achieving longevity for the next owner. Some guy on here refusing to do it, still running....Run a 14mm tap on the thread, it may clear the issue. You can go to 16mm if needed.

I don't do anything on my van for the next owner. I do it for myself.

Change mine every 3000 miles and filter every 6000 , no matter what .
Can be a bit of a pain in summer months every 6 weeks , but oil is cheap, engines are not .

Normally I change oil and filter every year no matter mileage.
But last 2 years had done no more than 1000 miles between last oil and filter change.....

oil is cheap, engines are not.

I buy 20 litre tub of semi 10/40 (no hydraulic tappets) really cheap from Euro, same stuff goes into the MK4 Golf and Mrs's (newish) Beetle

Don't intend to get rid of mine anytime soon and only use mine to go away in so absolutely need it to be 100% when I do use it

No; just saying. I do quite like building engines, oh I’ve said it now. I’ll get quotes on this next year when my 2.1 MV explodes
