Doing some re-wiring on the van someone helping me, removing all the old crap wiring and the indicators also have the bulbs for the side lights, I never thought about this before but the guy was saying they are old & pointless and to remove them - are they meant to be there?.

Are they needed for MOT or anything in Europe? The wiring looks old & crap so might just disconnect & remove and keep as indicators. I think I read they are parking lights??

You can wire them up as running lights and fit a relay to control them.
I can't give you any info with regards to the MoT requirements, I haven't needed an MoT for over 19 years.

So am I right in assuming that out of the factory they either shouldn't be there or are just set as parking lights?

He thought it looked like someone had drilled new holes for the bulbs.

Possibly for the US market originally (dunno) but its far more likely the indicators are aftermarket as you can buy them in a few places.

The clear and smoked after market indicators have the secondary bulb in them plus wiring. Probably just those- u can ignore them if you like
