I had a leak from thermostat end of coolant pipe that runs from thermostat to junction behind engine. Gradually tightened clip but leak didn't stop and eventually got so tight that pipe was split. Bought a brand new one from BW, same thing - leaking from end of pipe ath thermostat end.
Is there a knack to it?

I have the same on my tin top
you really need the spring loaded OEM clip.but a pita to get in there need to do.it from underneath.
dunno where you buy them

Just binned the spring clip as well having swapped it for a jubilee.

I don't see how you can split that pipe ? Maybe you mean you split the hose ? If you have a drip dry the hose and apply a light smear of grease or Blue Hylomar to the inside of the hose. It shouldn't need to be too tight to seal it.

Its the long rubber one from thermostat that then runs along back of engine.

When I replaced my engine recently I had a leak from the non-thermostat end of that metal pipe which turned out to be a minute crack in the brazing of the "T" junction. I fixed it by filing a "V" into the crack and silver soldering it. Got to admit it had me puzzled for a time

Already fitted new coolant pipe. Leaks in the same place as the old one. Perhap the plastic mount has cracked

Think you might have answered your own question. I had a similar leak on my van. No matter how much tightening and messing about couldn't get rid of a drip on the plastic water flange. Over time it had slightly warped, changed it and all was well again.

Looks like there is a very fine crack in plastic housing. Didn't look much but for the moment after replacing the housing it seems that leak has stopped. Who would have thought the metal pat of the housing would be so sharp!

Spoke too soon. Still leaks despite changing everything. Don't suppose anyone could tell me which size spring clip I need for the pipe?
I would measure it myself but I don't know how the fitting is measured eg is a 12mm spring clamp for a 12mm pipe or is the clamp slightly smaller than the pipe
