Dog leg gearbox linkage - 1st to 2nd gate

After a few years away I have a 'new' van - '89 caravelle with 1.9 DG engine and 5 speed dog-leg.

Last van had a 4 speed, so the dog leg is all new to me.

Minor issue with it, there is clearly a sprung loaded gate that should close as you take it out of first and aim for second.

Trouble is there is a bit of a delay whilst mine engages, which makes finding 2nd trickier than it needs to be.

Feels like there is something that needs a bit of a clean and a lube - can someone tel me which bit though?

Cheers,

Alex

Have a look in the Wiki (on the top of the page ) and you'll find the information that you are looking for.

Thanks for that, the photos are a bit clearer than the wiki, makes more sense now.

It's an easy fix and ours works perfectly now, it may also be a good idea to change the gearbox oil whilst your working on the van. If this fix dose not bring you any luck then move onto the linkages making sure there all in good condition ect. Be very weary of the gear box filler plug as ours was and still is completely stuck on so be prepared if changing the oil :ok
