I have just replaced a few pushtod tubes on 1.9 wbx. When re-inserting pushrods do they automatic seat themselves in correct position against cams?
Not going to start engine until lm re-assured!
Thanks
Stuart

No they don't centre well and they sit on hydraulic tappets not the cam.
best to look down the tube with a torch its hard so I use a USB endoscope.

Tappets yes. Not cams. Getting my engines mixed up. As long as they centre on tappets though. Is it something you can judge by feel? All the videos lve watched just show rods getting shoved inside tubes with no mention of alignment.

It's easy enough when the engine is on the bench and the pushrods are vertical, but when doing it with the engine in the van the pushrods can easily end up resting on the lower edge of the tappet, and I'm not sure it's that easy to tell without visual inspection such as Itchy's endoscope. You will often see a tappet with a chip taken out of the edge, and it seems likely these are caused by the pushrod not being seated in the centre. I think it ought to be easy to detect when you attempt to refit and adjust the rockers though - if the pushrod isn't seated then the adjuster screw will have to be wound right out to even get the rod under the rocker, and there won't be any 'give' when you tighten them up, as there normally is on a hydraulic tappet (except maybe as the pushrod bends  ).
