Hi

Just bought a '87 2.1 VW Caravelle which has been stored for 2 years. Have not started it yet!

Would greatly appreciate the below servicing advice. It has a foreign registration. I plan to either get the parts at GSF or any UK auto store

ANSWERS
Correct oil (synthetic/semi synthetic + quantity?

Oil filter type?

Fan belt?

Contact points type?

Correct point gap?

Spark plugs?

Correct tyre pressure?

Should I check / buy anything else for a 500 mile trip?

Petrol tank is over half full and VW looks in good shape.

Many thanks

Most of your questions are answered in the WIKI or by searching previous threads on this web site.

Unless your van has had a non standard engine implanted, there are no points, so no point gap to worry about.

I admire your bravery in buying a van without starting it up! That's what I call faith in the Almighty!
Unless you have an electric fuel pump you will probably need to 'prime' the carb with fuel to get it going after 2 years standing. Or give it a generous squirt of Easystart up the air intake of the air filter.

Best place to get parts is Brickwerks by the way.

Check and / or replace your HT leads and rotor arm. Best to be sure you are getting sparks where you want them.

The name of the game is preempting issues before they let you down. So check and replace all hoses as necessary. Especially the vacuum hose. A spare Dalek cap is useful as they are prone to let you down without warning.

4.5 litres of 15/40w MINERAL oil

Oil filter Mann W719/12

No points so no gap.

Tyre pressures for a van is 45 front 55 rear

The rest is (as already said) in the Wiki page at the top of the screen

For quality parts ... https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts.html

Cheers, Ian.

Also, if that is old fuel in the tank - drain and replace for fresh.
