Hi,

Changed the oil at the weekend, while the previous owner had been paying for reliable servicing, he'd been topping up with some halfords 5W30. Peace of mind...

Popped into GSF for sump washer, took the new plug off the parts shelf the guy assured me was right... assumed would be OK and he knew his VWs. It wasn't it was 19mm head, no space in the recess for a socket. So I put the old one back in with some PTFE tape. Not ideal, but better than a leak. Can wait till next time. Made me wonder if that's normal, as the engine is a rebuild, but I assume the recess is the same on any DG. The original was a 13mm nut with a wider flange. The oil that came out was nice and clean, no noticeable bits of metal.

They are tight. Get yourself a new sump plug from Brickwerks. M14 x1.5 from memory. Oil should be 15W-40 mineral, only.

lots have been changed for M16 or even M18 but assuming you have M14 then you need the plug with the 13mm hex or as you say you can't get a socket on, Brickwerks as said.
