Hi all, So rebuilding a W code 1700 engine. Put a new everything inside. Bigger B+P into 2 liter heads, but I need advise regarding rocker arms and shafts.
2 liter heads didn't come with rocker assemblies and the 1700 rocker arms are wrong.

What rocker arm assemblies do people recommend for the 2 liter heads, and where on earth can I get them. Having trouble finding them.

Been a member for years but had to re-register as I couldn't login in.

W code is a Type 4 411/412 engine, originally on D-Jet fuel injection.

Look at using rockers from the 1800 / 2000 engine fitted to the T2 bay or the CU engine

Here's a starter - other people will have more in depth knowledge than me, though I do seem to recall a difference in the rockers between 1700/1800 412 engines, but I thought that was only adjusting nut size. https://www.vwheritage.com/vw-bay-windo ... s-camshaft

Hi mate, yep engines out my shed and a spare for my a 411LE and 1700 rockers are different, angles wrong.

Where I'm getting confused is the 1700 rockers are spring loaded but I think 1800/2000 are solid??

Just fired up ETKA, part codes as follows

1700 - Inlet 022 109 443, exhaust not listed
1800 - Inlet 022 109 443, exhaust not listed
1970 CU - Inlet 022 109 443, exhaust not listed

All seem to be the same

The tappets are solid in all engines apart from the CU I believe. Definitely hydraulic in the CU, I have issues with mine, definitely solid in a W engine when I rebuilt them 35 years ago. Different pushrods correspondingly

Yep I have a 411 LE variant, she's my baby and has been driving me made this last 12 month chasing issues but pretty much sorted bar replacing clutch master.

Thanks for the info, you've confused me even more. Are you talking about rocker arms?

I need to know about rocker arms and the shaft for the 2.0 heads. The ones I have are from 1.7 heads and are not correct.

Have a look at the diagram on the VW Heritage site

Camshaft rotates
The cam followers / hydraulic tappets press on the camshaft and follow its profile
Pushrod goes between the cam followers and the rocker arms
Other side of the rocker arm presses on the valve head, which is under spring pressure

Hope that removes any confusion, the point is that the 411 has "solid" tappets, the CU has hydraulic, but the rocker arms are supposed to be the same for both.

Thanks for the info. I will have to have a closer look at the arms I have off the 1700 heads. Test fitted the yesterday in the 2.0 heads but didn't seem/want to sit right.
Hence me asking question and bringing on my confusion..... And the fact that the 1700 arms have some wear, shafts seem ok, but arms have taken a bit of a pounding in the cups. And me asking what to use and where do I get them.

If the shaft are good, could I use these arms, or something similar?

You could, but Ray Greenwood is pretty clear that OE is best, Porsche 914 items the best of the best. I have no experience of them

I’ve got lots of type 4 bits, if you need rockers
