Mounting Header Tank

Hello,

Van is now nearly w/c thanks in no small part to this forum, many nights have been spent trawling through threads.

One small issue, how on earth does the header tank fit to the body. I have the little cradle that tank sits in but can't figure out where the mounting points are, expansion tank is fine and fitted as normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(I'll be fitting a battery later this week so no doubt I'll be back to correct my first wiring attempts!)

Thanks.

I just put my engine back in after some work including titivating the exhaust and side and rear lower engine bay panels. My pressure tank fits into a pressed sheet metal bracket with two self tap type screws at the top for the tank and three M6 screws at the bottom which are screwed into nutserts in the long horizoontal rear panel which sits over the exhaust box. What I would describe as the header tank - the one you use to check and top up in service - which is not pressurized is secured by two self tap type screws which if I remember correctly are not immediately apparent and enter from the rear so to speak
Hope this is helpful to you

Maybe aircolds did not have these fixing points.

The cradle attaches to the exhaust shroud

Thanks to all and apologies if my terminology was a bit off, it is the tank with the dalek cap.

I only fitted the exhaust yesterday and haven't got around to fitting the shroud/sheild yet so hopefully with that in place it will all come together.

Re Aircooled fixing points I've been pleasantly surprised that so far every hole/nut/bracket etc seems to have been there e.g. radiator bracket holes with nuts/slots for coolant hose clips/holes for the other tank etc.

Cheers to all.

Cheers Itchy,

Hopefully got a free afternoon tomorrow so hopefully get it fixed in place.

Then I need to figure out where I went wrong wiring everything up!

Cheers.

Aha I recognise that pic from one of the many posts of yours (and others) I had read through more than once.

I'm 100% sure I'll be back on this very forum tomorrow with a pic. I thought everything in the engine bay was okay (ish) with exception of coil and temp sender (old cooling system) and obsessively cleaned terminals/renewed connections/shrink wrapped ends etc. I got a new battery, charged it and fitted it, got too exited when dash lights came on, stupidly turned the key an extra click and one short crackly sound later all the lights went out never to return (and I haven't even added any coolant yet!).

After getting tank fitted I'll be digging out the multimeter and starting the diagnostics.

I was trying not to go off topic but the temptation was too much.

Thanks to all again, fitted shroud and tank slotted right into place. There was obviously a right order to rebuild and I got it very wrong!

Also got power restored, after making sure all my positive cables were up to scratch and getting the earth strap gleaming it was the neg cable on the battery that was the issue. Need to get some oil and coolant in and have a test fire up (or a turn of ignition at least- wether it fires up or not is less clear).

Cheers.
