Having some issues with the starter motor on my 1.6 air cooled petrol engine. I’m going to remove it and investigate. Will I need to replace the oilite bushing when I refit it or is that just for fitting new units?

Hello,

If the starter motor turned over well before, then the oilite bush should be ok...

I would change this when the engine is out, during clutch change and crankcase oil seal

Starter motors are not difficult to repair, sticky solenoid, usually dirt and corroded contact plates...

However, as you do not want the starter to let you down, it is worth fitting new, and hence the oilite bearing...

A 600 watt starter, with no core charge, ( so you can keep the repaired one as a spare), is available here:

or, very good, new CNC billet machined:

Hope this helps...
