Hi my 1.6 jx td manifold is dripping oil from the outlet nearest the timing belt no 4 cylinder I think! .it's dripping onto the exhaust. Is it an engine out job to replace or can you do it with engine in the van is it a DIY job .cheers Danny

Are you sure it’s not the cam cover? Shouldn’t really be any oil in the manifold to drip out I would have thought. Unless the valve clearances have been checked the cam cover may not have been removed for ages, so gasket will be aged.

If it is the cam cover it’s easy in the van. There should be a baffle under the cam cover as well to stop oil getting thrown up into the breather.

Hi Roger been out cleaned oil off from every where, nipped up cover bolts ,nipped up manifold bolts, turned on and watched still a weep from manifold. but it's dripping from exhaust joint so could be serious turbo maybe!! any info would be great in for MOT wed !!!!!!

Can you post a photo? I find it’s easiest using a mobile phone and the Tapatalk app to access the forum when I want to post a photo - you can do it directly from the app and not worry about using a 3rdparty to host the pics.

A picture is worth a thousand words and all that

That last photo, that’s the exhaust manifold, just below the intake manifold, and if so it’s upstream of the turbo? If so I’d suspect the cam cover(mine leaks with a new gasket and tightened up, or if not, it’s above my pay grade! Maybe someone else can suggest how oil gets to be in the exhaust manifold and leak out? I would expect oil in the exhaust manifold would just burn up, given the temps!

Good it passed! Have you got a garage that you trust?
Is the top of exhaust/silencer join oily? If so it could be that oil is dripping on it from the leaky cam cover.
