The speedo in my 89 1.9 wbx is giving me issues.
The trip mileage doesn't click over, I've had it apart several times and know what has gone wrong with it but have never successfully fixed it and to top it off now the speedo needle is miles out.
Dose anyone have any recommendations for someone who can refurbish the speedo head?
On top of that the dash lights are very intermittent and the main beam tell tale doesn't work.

Strange, they did one for another German manufacturer for me - about 20 years ago though

If it’s the same as mine the cog on the end had slipped along the spindle and wasn’t connecting with the second cog (common issue) - it had been stuck on the same mileage for about 6 years (as per the MOT’s)!

If it’s the same issue and you fancy having a go, pull the cog off the spindle, get a small pair of pliers and ‘rough up’ the metal on the spindle, push the cog back on and force it over where you’ve roughed up the metal on the spindle. This basically holds the cog back in place and stops it slipping off again.

Mine’s been fine for the last 5 years.

looking at the brick yard thread thats the same problem i have with mine, i glued the green cog onto the shaft a while ago but it seems that the whole shaft moves to take it out of mesh with the worm drive

ill have it back apart again soon and take some pictures

Check that the six gears that mesh with the each of the mileage wheels are rotating freely. The shaft they are mounted on is mild steel and it eventually corrodes causing the gears to seize, the force then needed to increment the mileage wheels, eventually causes the pinion gear to part company with the shaft. I remove the speedo return spring, undo the four securing screws then lift the entire assembly out. You can then rotate the gear at the other end of the shaft and check to see how easily the mileage wheels rotate. Those 6 gear wheels should freely rotate, if they do not then you have to remove the shaft, take the 6 gears off and clean/lubricate the shaft and re-assemble. You can then put a nick on the shaft before refitting the pinion gear.

With later speedos, the speedo needle shaft at its mouning point is very thin and easily snapped. Early ones are much thicker.
