Replacement exhaust that will bypass heat exchangers

Hi all. I'm looking to get rid of my rotten heat exchangers and replace them with a 'straight-through' exhaust that'll connect directly to the existing silencer. Sorry, I'm probably not using the correct terms there. Anyway, I posted a similar question a few years ago and someone did say they had done this but didn't give me any specifics. I've tried PMing them but I think the account is long dead. Does anyone know how I might achieve this? Is there a product out there already? I did speak to a guy at Busfest a few years back whose company would build something for me, use my van for the template and then sell the product on. I could never get hold of them after the show. I'd appreciate it if I didn't get any "why are you removing the heat exchangers?" questions, thanks :)

They are called J tubes although they are not actually a J tube on a CU engine.
But the heat exchangers help cool the engine.

Do they, I thought they just provided heat for warming?

Sorry can't do links, google vw type 4 exhaust headers available from Heritage and other CSP suppliers, mind you at those prices it would be cheaper to get something custom made, check local exhaust builders.

I just got some from speed shop.
£220.
Look great and fit properly.
Not ran the engine on them yet.

Hello,

If all you want to do is remove the heat exchangers to fit J tubes....

Then you can remove the exchangers, and cut off the tinware and fibreglass.....revealing....J tubes...

Rattle can hi temp shiny paint....et voila.. :)

Maybe fit new nuts and copper gaskets..

Air-cooled Bliss.. 8)

Cordialement,

:ok

So no engine cooling then?
