steering wheel removal

Hi,
I am trying to remove the steering wheel. On the GoWesty video the man removes the nut and effortlessly pulls the wheel off. Mine has not come off effortlessly and refuses to budge. I have applied copious plus gas and will return later, but before I dig out the lump persuader, is there a knack/trick - simpler method,
many thanks

I'll assume you've got the nut off, they can get stuck on after time.
Put the nut back on a few threads, to protect the splines, and while pulling up on the wheel give the nut a good whack.
Hopefully this will shock the wheel off, be careful though or you'll smack yourself in the chops!
Other than that it's just brute force I'm afraid, no special method to it.

Keep your head (and teeth) out the way but I find a couple of short smacks on the back of the wheel with open palms usually moves it.

Wiggle it(just a little bit!). By which I mean push and pull on alternate sides of the wheel (9&3 o’clock). Saves your teeth. I just went with the teeth risking manoeuvre, but my front teeth are already false after an exuberant end to a night out during a mid-spent period when I was old enough to know better.

thanks Roger T, CovKid,
put on the gum shields and gave it some, but still rusted in place. Anyone in Plymouth area have a puller I could borrow/hire?

Success!! many thanks for all advice - very rusty - just took more force and plus gas than I initially felt comfortable with.
