To your left as you look at the engine near the coil

That's where I thought it'd be- but there's nothing.

Do MV engines even use one?

No, it's in the ECU.

Van runs on petrol and lpg. Will run on lpg, but when switched over to petrol it will fire up on ignition then die. Next step is replacement AFM - on it's way from chap on the forum.

If it runs on lpg then it is basically fine and you have a fuelling issue on petrol, maybe due to blocked fuel line, water in fuel, failed fuel pressure regulator, blocked vacuum to pressure regulator, and depending on how the petrol injectors are isolated when on lpg there could be a fault there like the relay (usually crap earth or wiring issue) or the intercept loom if fitted (my van has an extra loom in series with the injector wiring as that's how Gasure used to do it, there are different methods), it may be an ecu fault if your set up has separate ecu for lpg operation, it could be a faulty lpg to petrol switch
I'd suggest you need to take it to someone who knows the system, but don't go replacing items willy nilly hoping to fix the fault as it runs on lpg therefore you have the basics working, fuel air and spark, it's just something minor stopping it fuelling correctly on petrol
sorry if you have posted on alt fuels about this problem I rarely look in there

Cheers Aidan - all good stuff. Process of elimination at present - and all that helps.
