I have just discovered a wet patch on my drivers floor well (isn't water, more like coolant) Spotted a leak from the pipe that runs up to the heater matrix. Seems to be coming from the leaver that moves the heater controls. Dripping when the engine is running

Can anyone please suggest a solution?
Will it need a new pipe front to back?
Could I do away with that lever section as I've never used the heaters in the 3 years it's been on the road?

The dripping is circled. Looks to be coming from the arrow point.

Not sure how a leak there would make it into your footwell - probs still needs fixing but you might need to look elsewhere for the footwell culprit?!?

Pretty sure it is. When it drips, the fluid is landing on the mat.

The hot / cold valve should be under the van, above the spare wheel , it should not be in the cab, looks like a muppet has messed previously......

Had a read of your comment in the Wicki. Any idea what diameter this pipe is please Ian?

My mate said he could run some new pipe for me as some of it seems corroded. I’d imagine I’d need a new valve, if it’s the valve that’s leaking.

The heater hose is 16mm ID 25mm OD on a WBXer ... I just replaced all ours, front to back.

Cheers. My mate said that, just replace it all. I’d imagine the hose for my 1.6D NA would be the same. Thanks again.

Just watched a YouTube vid on changing this valve so can see where it should be. I’m now wondering if the original valve is still in place and the PO added this one as a manual method of changing the heating to cold.

Has anyone used an alternative to the 16mm/5/8” rubber coolant pipe?

Just been discussing possibly using the speedfit type plastic pipe or even copper. Just for the bulk of it and rubber the bendy bits.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.

The question really is .. Why would you ? Mine was Duraheat EPDM Rubber Hose 16mm ID and it was 3.10/mtr for a 10 mtr roll to me through work. (I am a buyer )

There's always someone that will say it can be knitted from recycled yoghurt cartons to save 10 Bob but again ... Why would you ? IF I had it available at the time I dare say I would've done it in silicone hose but this is as good as (if not better than) new and new has lasted almost 30 years and I only replaced it now because I'm swapping the front to back pipes for stainless ones while the tank and everything is out.

I can cope with that price. I thought it was a lot more expensive than that. Cheers Ian.

As I said that was price to me 'in the trade'

Another reason to stick with a EPDM pipe is no joints, so no new places to leak from.
