Stubborn gearbox filler plug

So went to change our gearbox oil yesterday and as we thought the filler plug is stuck on tight like really tight. This I have read is a common problem but obviously working on the gearbox and so close to the linkages I really did not want to cause any damage. I sprayed wd40 which I know is definitely not the best lubricant at getting stuck bolts off and left it overnight and still no movement. Any one have any ideas or little tricks of the trade to help us out. I’m looking into other lubricants other then wd40 aswell and maybe getting a set of easy out tools for the future aswell :ok

You're on the right lines, clean t up as you have and penetrating oil or parrafin to start with. Move onto using a bit of heat from a butane torch next, however, this is where having the right tools makes the job easy. What are you using to try and unscrew it ?

We bought a 17mm Alan key from brickworks and I am using it with a spanner

That looks the job, just like mine - I would use a deep socket (20/21mm I think) and ratchet if you have one. Alternatively, a few taps with the hammer, firstly on the top of the allen key, and then on end of the spanner may shock it loose.

Good luck

I used the same tool but with a ring spanner on it, gave it a tap with a hammer and a small bit of wood. I made a right mess refilling mine before I got the knack. Slightly warmed the oil by placing near a radiator and used the pipe through the engine bay method up to a funnel and let it slowly drain through.

More leverage if possible, longer spanner or spanner with a piece of tube on it or socket and breaker bar.

Just make sure the 'hole' is cleaned out well so it doesn't slip.

Use PlusGas releasing fluid or similar, WD40 isn't really much good for this.
