I have a 1983 2ltr petrol T25 CU engine. Have just set the timing using a stroboscope and when reved in neutral sounds sweet but when i take the van out on the road in 1st and 2nd gear it's fine but when i try and accelerate in 3rd or 4th it misses and stutters as if it is losing power, then will dry fine when i ease off the accelerator. Anyone have any ideas?

Was it running OK before you set the timing?

no, i was having the same problems before. I thought setting the timing again would solve the problem.

Choke pull down unit or (strangely) failing HT leads - had similar symptoms some years back and new leads cured it.
