Any recommendations. Can't do it myself as screws are solid.

Thanks Rob. They did my Alternator, about £115 and said starter would be about the same. I think I saw someone doing a good job for less. Been quoted £110 for a Rollco, but I've never heard of this brand

my alternator failed last month when I was in Dorset and I located a 90A job at GSF in Pool. It was at a weekend and the chances of the AA to get one didn't seem good and I didn't want to get taken home so the extra few bob didn't matter to me. Ever so helpful People too. I Paid about £190 and am still waiting for Grandson the return the duff one to them and get back about £60 back.
Our local (Herts) repairer chucked it in as they doubled his rent so repairers are few and far between these days. But it is good to know a few more bob would get you a new one.

These guys have been around for decades and not too far from you. Often helped me out with brit bike/stationary engine electrics. Very approachable people in my opinion, but not used for a couple of years now.

What screws do you mean? if the two holding body together they should come apart after soaking in plus gas. Otherwise perhaps cut them off and replace with threaded rod of similar diameter. Not done this myself though

I cleaned the internals of my auto starter two months ago. Just got rid of dirt with clutch cleaner and a paint brush. Then wiped down bushes with petrol. It has made a big difference to cranking speed.
