i have a recon gearbox and 16 v golf engine and it keeps sticking in reverse and first sometimes its hard to get it out any ides pls?

I had probs with third gear and trying to get into reverse ,on the base of the gear lever I just slackened off one of the bolts slightly and moved the plate a toutch solved the prob ok
