Hi all,

Having recently bought my T3 I am in the process of addressing those bits that are immediately obvious - like this noise once I get past about 35 mph. Seems to be coming from in front of me, ie. the dash clocks? But then noises are funny things and it could also be somewhere else but thats just where it seems to be emanating from.

My instinct tells me it might be the speedo cable but I'm not sure.

Its a 'small' noise (if that makes sense?), you know, its not a noise I am worried about, its just loud and irritating!

Any ideas?

Hmmmm plenty of noises in a VW, try unscrewing the speedo and go for a short run to see if it's still there.

Seriously, though. I had a noise like that on one of my cars in the past - can't remember which one. It turned out to be a leaf in the fresh air duct. Eventually it finally totally dessicated and shreded itself through the blower fan, showering me in what looked like dry tea leaves.

Later speedo cables clip on rather than screwing on they normally 'click' rather than 'whir' ... the last 'whir' I had on mine was the alternator bearings. Water pump bearings tend to 'rumble' btw

I found a mechanics stethoscope very handy for spotting these noises.
