A new 2e3 is very tempting but why not rebuild the one you have or get it rebuilt? Might be a far cheaper option

^^^ Agree, my first thought too.

Try these companies, they will refurb your carb, for you. Call for latest pricing.

I paid £198 including VAT to Eurocarb and it’s been perfect ever since. Or have a go yourself if you’re feeling brave. Refurb kits are ~£26.ImageImage

There are also some good videos to diy which is the way I chose but it's not for everyone. Unless your original carb is damaged in some way it's probably going to be of better quality than any repro product.

Very straightforward to overhaul the carb. Nail polish remover (acetone) cleans it the quickest. Follow the youtube guide if it all looks confusing.

Back to the original question - has anyone actually fitted one of the "Brosol" 2e3 VW Heritage carbs?

I'm curious because a previous owner/garage fitted a Weber 34 DAT to our 1.9DG and I'd prefer it nearer original. It's pretty hard to refurb a Pierburg when you're starting with a Weber... :)

Yeah I can see how that would be tricky :D

We had one fitted by Steve at Gasure about a year ago. Superb job as always and only cost £70 more than the rebuild charge quoted on this thread. The Bus now runs perfectly on both petrol and gas.

Wee thread bump as I've finally lost the plot with the Weber 34 DAT on my DG.

Long story short, I've finally found the cause of the carb occasionally not coming off the choke. It turns out the choke flap mechanically interferes with the internal mounting of the standard pancake inlet and the flap sometimes gets stuck in a semi closed position. Infuriatingly stupid design...

So the Weber's getting put in the bin and I'm getting one of the Brosol "2E3" carbs to replace it.

Hopefully the wiring hasn't been interfered with whilst fitting the Weber by a previous owner in the past and it'll be a relatively easy to restore to an original setup.

I think the inlet manufold may have been modified to take the weber.

I've just refurbished my 2e3 using a Brickwerks rebuild kit and followed these videos which are incredibly helpful. It's not that tricky, so long as you're methodical and careful. Having said that I haven't put mine back yet but I'm sure it'll be fine.
