Hi.

I believe I have a crack in the coolant header tank (The one with the dalek cap) and wondered what the procedure is for replacing it?

Thank you

Well I just clamped off and stoppered the pipes with an assortment of cobbled clamps working quickly to limit coolant loss, changed the tank, refilled with 50/50, ran the engine and went round the bleed points when good and hot. I park up a slope and so most air seems finishes up at the radiator bleed point. Been lucky with cooling so far (2.1 WBX) septin for the split sensor thread.

As CS says. Straight forward swap, limiting coolant loss best you can. In addition a light smear of washing up liquid round the couplings will help the pipes slide on easily and quickly.

Ar$e end up in the air will help save coolant loss, have a bucket handy to catch it as you take the hose off between the tank and the big water pump pipe. Personally I clean up as much as possible around the area first ... saves contamination ... and dry the area thoroughly afterwards before running engine.

New tank on, hoses on, sensor in (I put a light smear of Blue Hylomar on the O-ring), plug on, refill system to the brim, run engine up and keep topping up till it stops dropping, watching for leaks. Dalek cap on and run up to full temperature :ok

Only thing I can add is to buy a decent one. Brickwerks or VW.
I bought a JK one and it leaked from day one. (about 7years ago now, so they may have got their act together....)

I agree completely ... in the pre-Brickwerks era JK and GSF were pretty much our only options. I had a JK tank that was split from new, and another where the thread was wrong for the cap Image Their Returns Department were VERY efficient but to be fair they had had plenty of practice.
