Hi all, my eber isnt working, new van see. I have the control box for it and the thermostat. when it was fittedd to the van i fliped it on and the light went green, the fan turned on, i set the thermostat but nothing, the pump didnt work. left it for a while but still nothing, tested the pump then, that works fine. so took the eber of to have a look inside, the inside look ok but what are the sesors like one for heat near the glow plug, which btw works. and another one at the far end, nothing complicated on this one to go wrong as i knwo the control box works becaue i tested it on a friends one with good results.

The heater is of a diesel 1981 westy, rather rectangular box that has two wide pipes going into the van and two smaller outlets on one of the long sides of the main unit, one of these vents had a pipe on it.

i would like to get it woking befor DF cause the F bit of DF is true from last years expereince.

Im gonna try and get it working tomrow on the bench, i will make sure all the wires are ok and not shorted or coreaid, but any ideas plaese help.

Regards Jon

On a diesel Eber all you need is 12v, fuel, and a ballanced combustion air in and exhaust out. Oh and not to break it when you put it in !!!

Are you sure you have fuel ?
Is the battery below the Eber cut off level?
Is there a timer in-line which is playing up/fooling you ?
Is the thermostat acting up/fooling you ?

Try taking the whole unit out and plug it into your mate's (known good ?) system.

Hope this helps, Ian.

The temperature switch on top of the combustion chamber controls the voltage to the glow plug. When the chamber gets hot enough the voltage to the glow plug is shut off to make the eber less hard on your battery.

The temperature swtich half way around the hot air baffle is your overtemperature switch which shuts down the eber if it gets too hot.

The glow plug switch should switch at about 100 deg and the overtemperature switch should go at around 220 deg. Both are normally closed switches so you can test them with the eber off. You can get equivalent parts from the Farnell website for a couple of quid if you think there's a problem with them.

How did you test the fuel pump by the way?

Hey dave,

put the thing back together and no luck again. with the pump should it return by itself i mean i put 12v dc across it and it pumps once, take it of it returns, put it back on it pumps once. is this normalll or should it self return if i applie dc to it?

Also if the sensors are normall close then i can just open them to simulate just for testing purposes?

thnks jon

the pump is a pulse pump, its an electromaget operated diafram, so yes, apply elastric-trickery= click- pump, take it away= click
to make it pump manually, apply and take away 12vdc rapidly.
you will not measure 12v on the pump power leads without resistance either.

can you read the fault codes off the timer?

Hello :D

This may not have a direct impact on its working but...

I cleaned my exhaust (Eber) the other day, and its quite surprising how much garbage comes out!
This may restrict your exhaust output and therefore restrict its operation. Try blowing down the pipe (eber end) and see what the restrictions like.

I'm going to DF and will be taking some "Eber exhaust cleaning rods and brushes" with me, maybe we can give it a swab out there.

Best of luck, hope you get it working :)

Myk.

Check the exhaust is not blocked by rust.
Mine was.
Although most times its because the battery is not giving enough power, try it with the engine running.
Does the pump start clicking after about 1 min?
You should be able to hear it.
