Hiya. Has anyone fitted some kind of intercom in their van so they can hear the kids on the back seat and vice versa?

Oh no. Can't think of anything worse.... We turn up the radio to drown them out.

Is it that your van is noisy? Just a little bit? I can just about hear my kids now, after spending loads of time on sound deadening. Campers which were originally panel van Transporters often have minimal or no soundproofing, ex caravelles have a lot more.

Yes it is noisy but even if I did improve the sound deadening I think it'd be hard to hear the kids.

I got a lift of a mad old German fellow years ago when I was hitch-hiking in Germany and a friend and I were packed in the back of some kind of ex-army reconnaissance vehicle. Suddenly we could hear him talking to us through what was essentially a long tube with a cone at each end. Very funny but effective. Maybe I should hook something like this up for the kids. They would love it!

We see a lot of families on campsites using cheap walkie-talkies to keep in touch with the kids, and have thought about getting them for our two. Maybe something like this would also give you a solution for the van?
