Starting woes

Hi folks, I've a 20L cu Aircooled panel van . Recently while descending a hill the engine cut out , I tried to bump start it but nothing . Cleaned out the fuel filter and fuel pump and checked the lines all clean . Still not starting with no fuel coming up . Rescued by the AA who thought it was the pump push rod . So changed that with a new one and checked the pump manually which was fine . Turned the engine over still no fuel . Fitted an electric pump loads of fuel but still not starting checked spark ok but the distributor cap was a little crusty on the nodes so cleaned them still no start , turned the engine over with my hand over the exhaust and felt no pressure . I'm now at a loss as to what it could be and hoping someone here will have the answer .Thanks John

I thought I'd need to do a compression test but it should be ok as the engine was professionally rebuilt last year. Annoyingly the garage is on the other side of the country so returning it will be interesting .Thanks John

Any old garage will do a comp check.
