Loosening Bolts

I need to replace the water pump to cylinder head pipe on my 1.9 water-cooled engine. Is it better/easier to slacken the bolts on the head with it warm/hot or cold, or does it make no difference. I don't fancy shearing the bolts or damaging the head. Thanks.

there are studs into the block, try some plus gas on the nuts first but usually not too rusty due to their location

As the man says
I used this to extract a broken exhaust stud in conjuction with cobalt drills and easy-outs ...
It shrinks the metal and breaks the bond.
