slight oil leak from case bolt

got a slight oil leak from case bolt on 2.0 cu type 4 engine its a 13mm nut just behind the oil filter how can i fix the leak would i be ok to undo the nut and put some sealant under the washer

Are you sure it is coming from the stud.It is usually from a leak further up, either from the oil filter housing flange or the even higher up the oil pressure switch or the distributor seal.

yeah can see it weeping when running and everything else has been changed oil cooler seals oil filter housing gasket rear main seal distributor seal all done

I think you know the answer - bolt needs to come out and be resealed. You should be able to do that with no detriment. A copper washer might be sufficient to stop it weeping. Probably need to drain the oil though.

hi thanks for the replies ill wait until it needs an oil change then as the oil filter has to come off to get to the nut its not losing a lot of oil glad to have it back on the road just got a new mot on her off to vw action next weekend
