1981T25 vw brokedown, starts but won't sustain and pull away

Evening all
I went to go away in hettie today but only made it half a mile down the road. It started quite well, ticked over while I packed her and set off fine.

However the van lost power and engine packed in so pulled over.

I am not very handy mechanically (I ve changed fuel filters and hoses etc) as you can prob tell. So the engine turns over but when it starts the engine splutters and dies. It will keep on running if I give it heaviesh revs but as soon as a ease of on the revs or go to put It in gear the engine dies.

The electrics seems fine to turn it over, fuel is getting to the engine and sparking but it won't tick over and putting it in gear seem ls to make it worse. I can pull away for about 5 metres before the engine dies.

Any advice or assistance would be muxh appreciated. It was fine when I set off and got half mile down road.

Thanks in advance

Ross

Check the vacuum hoses around the engine have not blown off especially the servo hose on the left inlet manifold.

I had a similar problem due to water in fuel.
