Wobbly windscreen wipers

Hello
The wipers on my lovely new (to me

) panel van have thrown a wobbly...they move, just about, but they don't start and stop where they should. They hold their place when you move them back manually, but I certainly won't be going out in the rain..!
From my attempt as describing the problem, can anyone tell me if I should replace the whole motor or is it actually an easy repair job??
(Was going to post in the 'wanted' forum but thought I'd ask the question here first, sorry if I'm in the wrong place!)
Thanks!

These is usually due to the wiper arms being loose on the spindles, try tightening the nuts under the cover on the end of the arm. You may have to take the arm right off and clean up the spindle so the splines bite onto the arm.

Thank you, will give it a go

While you are at it, check your wiper blade to window angle, should sit at 90 degrees to the window.

I've had this problem. For me it was a case of removing the arms, and with patients feed some WD40 down the spline. Like most things on our vans lack of use can be detrimental.

Thanks cob20 and dubdog&max, will do
I was thinking of changing the washer sprayers to the twin type too - looks like weekend no.1 is all about the windscreen!

Be very careful.Should one of the tubes come off the jet when removing. You are in a world of trouble. The original jets are more than adequate IMO..

Clean the splines on the shaft out with a needle before tightening - they get filled with the softer alloy when clamped.

Ok, thanks again
It might just have been the fact I was left with water travelling across the windscreen, what with the wipers going topsy turvy, that pushed me to decide on the twins. Thanks for the advice R0b, I'll tread carefully
