Rear Side Panel

Hi,
So reconstructing the c pillar as it had 'disappeared'.....
Bought the replacement panel that goes from the c pillar to the wheel arch, and incorporates the lower section of the wheel arch.
When I offer it up there is literally nothing to weld the panel to on the c pillar...
Presumably this panel ( and the next panel along, the outer sill and lower body panel) are oversize parts that are supposed to weld to the remnants of the original panels..??
Presume I have to attached a 'flange' to the c pillar upon which to plug weld both panels..??
Its like a jigsaw puzzle with no picture to work to :?

Just itching to get started...
Looking at the photos online of the new part ( dangerous I know ) it still looks like the panels wont fit anywhere near the c post.... strange...

Have a look at the set up on the sliding door side, the rear side panel has a deep return that attaches to the c post, the middle side panel only has a short return to fit onto the rear side panel. Is your new lower panel section genuine vw ?

That might explain it..
The rear side panel has a narrow return, 5-7mm. So it's never going to reach the c post..
Might have to source a better part..,

Kinda guessed the middle panel was then plugged from inside the van to the front and rear panels...
Cheers

All makes sense now..

Next question.. As there is no seam on this panel where the narrow wheel arch flare meets the side panel, how have people attached the inner wing to the panel.. Seems a shame to weld this.. its held in place by the strengtheners I can see that, just seems bad to introduce a potential corrosion point by welding the inner wing upper...?
