I know 2 wires go to the battery, Where does the 3rd wire from the alternator go to?

I think that a different better description is needed, or photo. I wouldn't hazard saying anything without knowing what you are dealing with. There are several different configurations depending upon type of alternator/setup/engine etc.

T25, 16d, there are 3 wires coming out of the plug on the alternator, 2 of the wires go to the battery, the smaller 3rd wire goes into the wiring harness, I was just wondering where it went
