Fuel filler neck advice

Hi there, I didn't expect a technical issue as my first post but here we go. I've recently joined the T25 owning community with a 1983 1.9l DG engined van that's been converted into a high top camper. The family and I love it, it's a lot of fun in so many ways. But anyway, tech stuff...

One of my first jobs was replacing all fuel lines, from the tank back to engine and return feed. In doing that I'd visually inspected the tank and associated pipework and decided that they needed replacing but that I could wait a little longer. I was intending on replacing the tank in the autumn but plans had to change today after going out for a run as I started to get a whiff of fuel when I pulled up to a stop. Digging around in the offside wheel arch I found a detached breather pipe. After a blind feel with my hand both breather pipes crumbled away and disintegrated in my fingers at the tank end. Which means it's happy spanner time again. :)

I have an early tank, 68mm hole, with a metal filler neck and finally we get to my query. What should I do about the filler neck? Should I put up with the metal filler neck for a few more years, it looks alright but definitely has some corrosion around the tank end. Would it make more sense to replace it with a plastic one now or not?

Where can I find a plastic filler neck?

Thanks for the help. :)

Replace everything, put an ad on wanted section for the plastic filler neck. or look on ebay.

Cheers have been scouring around but no luck so far. Yep, like I say, was planning to replace everything in a few months with new parts anyway but didn't realise the filler necks were a pain to source.

No, sorry, I mean the whole filler pipe (or neck?). I have the early metal version, I'm looking to replace it with the later plastic one.

I think but am not certain it's part number 251201121D?

Easiest to replace with the later plastic type (can either put a brickwerks reducer gasket on & keep the original petrol tank), or replace the tank with a later tank :-)

This is the hose that disintegrated in my fingers. Fortunately it was "only" one of the the breather pipes. Scary nevertheless.

A common find I'm afraid ... people get obsessed with polishing wheels and lowering springs and forget the safety essentials.
