Glued on carpet removal

Hello. I have removed the glued on carpet from the rubber cab mat in my Autohomes. The carpet pile was easy, the foam stuff it left behind is trickier to remove. It's sort of foam stuck to the glue which is stuck on the rubber mat. Anybody any ideas on how to remove it please? I did think of cellulose thinners. I will be glueing some more carpet on top of the rubber mat but I want it to stick properly. Many thanks to you good folk.

I have recently done exactly this job it takes time but I removed all the rubber mat's from the van then scrubbed them with a stiff brush and acetone. The acetone didn't seem to effect the rubber at all but did remove the glue. They cleaned up really well, I also dyed them with a black rubber and carpet dye.
I used quite a lot of acetone and I would recommend wearing a mask as it can be quite potent.

I second the use of acetone - get a gallon off ebay. I watched a guy struggling to strip the residue from glued on carpet to fibreglass ( it had been there since the 70's apparently), he was amazed when I wandered over with a load of acetone and showed him how easy it was.
No smoking/sources of ignition near and if you get it on your hands it will strip the oils from your skin, use heavy rubber gloves unless your hands are as far gone as mine that you don't worry about beauty.
I use it for shifting crud off fibreglass before fibreglassing something else to it.

I would have thought that you would split the mats with a pressure washer, that original rubber is delicate to say the least.

no it came off nice with the pressure washer,I had it at a very shallow angle so it just lifted the carpet off
