Anyone here heard of adding a turbo to 1.7 KY engine?

I've just been told by a mechanic that it's quite a popular modification for these engines?

I was planning to put a 1.9 1Y engine in?? Anyone know how much a turbo is and if it's worth it?

Cheers.

Has it got the piston cooling jets in the block? AFAIK they aren't fitted as original so it wouldn't be suitable for using with a turbo. 1Y much easier.

I thought it would be more popular if it was doable?

The guy (vw mechanic) seemed positive that it possible? Said it was popular too? I definitely said it was a 1.7 diesel.

Not many of those engines around so can't see how it could be said to be popular. Would be easier to find a 1Y than a KY. Parts for KY engines are thin on the ground like cylinder heads whereas the 1Y is a newer engine and was fitted in more vehicles - Audi 80 (1Y: 08/89-12/91), SEAT Ibiza Mk2 (1Y: 02/93-06/99), SEAT Cordoba (1Y: 09/93-06/99), SEAT Toledo (1Y: 05/91-03/99), SEAT Inca (1Y: 11/95-06/03), Škoda Felicia (AEF: 10/95-08/01), Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Passat B3 (1Y: 05/89-09/93), Volkswagen Polo 6N (1994–2001). Mine came from a 98 Caddy.
