Advice please. I've had to revert tapping the starter motor in order to get my van going. Europarts have a REMY starter motor for £127 +VAT. Does anyone know if this is a known name.
The van is a 1986 1.9 petrol T25

I haven't had experience with that starter, but I would go with it over a recon.

The last two I have had have been from GSF, the first only lasted 2 years 10k miles, I couldn't belive it when it failed a couple of hours before getting the ferry back from Spain last year. the latest seems to be another reconditioned bosch, it was a different brand on the website.

I don't know anything about that particular motor but are you 100 percent sure that you have a good 12v+ at the solenoid when it sticks. When I suspected I needed starter it was actually a drop in the volts that was causing the problem.

However..... I bought a REMY starter motor from EuroCarParts in March 2016, and by Jan 17 it had failed (as diagnosed by RAC). To be fair to ECP, I got a full refund, no quibbling, including the value of the original core they weren't able to give me back

I got a genuine remanufactured BOSCH unit from Autodoc for £135, and the difference is night and day. Seems to turn the engine over better.

Thanks all. Since posting this the van has started every time without a hitch.

Bosch starters can be repaired easily and very cheaply.
The solenoid is the usual culprit and parts are still available
Any other starter does not have this facility, I was told by my local repair shop, due to the solenoid construction process.

I picked up a Bosch starter (not working) at a show for £5
It cost £25 to fix
