Question on Sarran1955's twin solex carb tuning video

Hello, I've just been watching the excellent video Sarran1955 posted on YouTube of the Solex twin carb tuning. I was wondering what the part is that looks like some sort of oblong-shaped cover screwed onto the outside of the throttle body at the base of the carbs and looks like some kind of blanking off plate? Also, where on the throttle flap is the 8.5mm measurement taken from and to when setting the basic throttle gap? It's obscured a bit by Sarran's hand in the video.
Thanks

Hello,

Aha..Fame at last.. :rofl :rofl :rofl

The blocky thing on the lhs carb is the idle enricher.. wire.. resistance,, spring and ball bearing.

Rhs is usually blank.. sometimes not even a blanking plate..

What we are trying to get is 0,8 mm gap at the butterfly to venturi gap on hot idle.

Hope this helps.. :)

Cordialement,

:ok

Yup, the gap between flap and side wall of carb when its closed. You just need that 0.8mm gap.

Thanks for replies. Sorry, not the idle enrichment device but the block screwed into the side of the base of the carburettors. Looks like you have them on both?

Hi, another question on the video - I'm trying to get the carbs set up as best as I can before I put them back on engine so diligently following all the steps! I am struggling to get the right hand injection quantity to the specified squirt amount per stroke. It's very low, somewhere around 0.3 ml compared to the left hand carb that was slightly low but I managed to adjust using the setting sleeve. Could this be due to a blockage perhaps?

Hello,

Check/change the accelerator pump diaphragm..

Probably hardened or split.

I took the top off the carb tonight and removed the little brass screw on the side that plugs the fuel passage. I blew through the injection tube using my mouth and wiggled a piece of 0.3mm copper wire in the fuel passage. Horrified to discover hundreds of tiny crystals, What the blithering heck?! Fuel pumps through the carb a lot better now but I'm worried these crystals may have found there way into other nooks and crannies.
