Running Fridge off the gas

We've got an Electrolux RM 185 in our 1990 T25 and on the hook-up it works fine, on the battery I think it works (although it seems to be far less effective than on hookup) but when I try to put it on gas, the little red light flashes and I can hear it clicking, but i'm waiting in vain for a woompff (yes that is how you spell it :D) but alas it just stops after a while.

My questions are: Does anyone have a manual for it? I've found one in German and one in Swedish but not one in English.
Is it necessary to get the air out of the pipes before it starts? (I don't think it's successfully run on the gas for years)
Is there an easy way to diagnose what's wrong?
Many thanks
Jules

The fridge only works on battery when you are driving along.
You have to hold the red igniter button in to make it spark. If it hasn't been used for a while it will take several attempts to get it going. It might ignite and then you hear it clicking again, so you need to hold the button down again until the clicking stops. Good luck.

You have to hold the gas knob in until the thermocouple has heated up enough to hold the gas valve open. Should be auto igniting.

The van needs to level for it to work on gas, on ours anyway.

Well this is v strange.
Firstly, the red bit in the picture is an LED. No red igniter switch that I can find Ralf85.
It clicks and clicks when it is on "0", but when turned to max, it just goes stops clicking straight away. I've listened and listened for any sign of life, but I left it on for a few minutes and the metal external 'flue' on the outside of the van does seem to be warming up. No detectable change in temp inside, but I'll leave it for a couple of hours and see if it's got cold in there. It might just be that it's working fine, but that it uses so little gas that it's absolutely silent. I did expect to hear some sort of noise, but then again it's not a home boiler...

You don't hear anything on gas. It takes a good 2 hours to cool down. Check that you have a blue flame - viewed through the round window at the back of the bottom of the fridge. You may have to lay on the floor to see it. If the flue vent is warming up it is working. It should get hot rather than warm if working OK.

I was being dense. It was working. It just a) makes absolutely no sound whatsover and b) doesn't cool down particularly dramatically.
