Hi, while doing a check of my fuel pipes etc before going away in the van, I found that the seal on the carburettor needs replacing as it's leaking (good job I did the checks!!!) what's the seal actually called? It's the seal between the top of the carburettor and the plastic air in take that sits on top. For some reason I can't upload a picture Been searching for a replacement but not knowing what it is called is making it hard to find.

you don't say what engine, I'm going to assume DG with pierburg 2e3, if not process is the same

Are you sure it's leaking.
We're asuming leaking air, or did you mean something else?

If the carb is dirty/oily then I would clean it up and use a smear of grease on both sides.
Then reassemble.
Oily carb is a sign of breather tower issues, overfilling at some point and a pinched/ restricted hose.

Thanks for you replies! It is a 1989 water cooled 1.9 petrol engine. Think I've sorted it, replaced all fuel hoses while at it, didn't look like anything wrong with the seal so just greased it and poped it back after a good clean. It was all black gunk around it. Didn't smell of petrol though. All back together now, so as soon as I can start the van after my battery has charged up, I shall see what it does next.
