JX engine rear fan always running

Hi all.
Does anyone who has/had a jx 1.6 know why my rear fan (not the one behind the radiator) but the one to the right side of the engine is constantly running as soon as ignition is turned on even when the engine is cold? Temp gauge seeming to pick up a bit quicker than it used to also.

Any help/advice would be wonderful?

My guess is, you have a non standard oil cooler fitted with a fan attatched . If so maybe it was simply wired to come on all the time that the ignition is on. Some means of thermostatic control of a oil cooler would be advisable.I understand synco 4 wheel drive models have a fan in the left of the engine bay to cool the turbo!
Certainly my jx has not got a fan to the right of the engine bay ,there is however the auxiliary water pump towards the right !!!

Probably the auxiliary water pump temperature switch is faulty, the switch is either on the heater feed pipe ( front of the cylinder head or on the big water pipe on the centre of the head)

Cheers fellas,
Hey I solved it - there is a switch on the dashboard which i did not know what it did. Turns out it turns on this fan that is situated to the right side of the engine and blows out of the hole in the body besides the exhaust!
A non-standard oil cooler? sounds like it could be it!
OMG thanks again to the best bunch of vw peeps anywhere (80-90).
cheers!

I would imagine there would be some fairly obvious additional oil lines if an oil cooler has been added.

Syncro turbo cooler? Was a factory added thing.
