Does anyone know where to get a replacement sliding door centre rail.
Mine is really rusty, solid but rusty.. got the panel to go behind, thanks Mike, but am not sure if the rail would weld, it's that pitted.
Can buy new for £50, which seems costly for a bit of channel!!

I have the panel to go behind the rail also. Mike mentioned there is a fool proof way to fit them. Don't suppose he shared this with you did he as this is my next job

Dont turn your nose up at £50 for the rail, its a heavy duty part and vw only have a low stock of the RHD part. They have sold out of the LHD part . The only alternative is second hand and they will have wear and rust issues aswell.

Hi. Did you fit the panel supplied by Mike? Any tips on how to fit it as Mike said there is a way but he has gone off the grid
Cheers

Hi,

Plan to measure to the profile of the panel, may drill so location holes to align the rail and panel when offering back to the van. Will definitely weld the rail to the panel before fitting the panel..
Should be straightforward..
Will be easier than these inner sills

I've done several & never welded rail to panel before fitting tbh
Would rather line up rail after panel welded on.
Take lots of measurements, ie from gutter to rail

Restoman. Any more secrets to fitting that panel behind the sliding door rail. Looks as though it could be tricky.

Hi there all ,
i too have had that problem i have replaced the panel ill post up some pics of how i went about it ,
when i removed the sliding rail by drilling out the spots along it in two or three of the spots i drilled straight though , to enable me to put it back in the same position .
as you will see from the pic i also had to repair the window frame above , i had found a rust free early replacement sliding door . my original door was well past it , so i cut a section from the window frame of the sliding door and used that to repair the window frame
ill try post up the pics
