It will work either way around, but normally wired with live to the right, viewed from the front.

Its a german import, so its a european 2 pin plug and socket.

Take this opportunity to change it for a 2 gang UK plug (preferably a waterproof one (under the sink etc..)
Then all you need to do is chop off the EU fridge plug and fit a UK one (or use an adaptor if you want?) and you have an extra discrete 230v socket.
