Interior trim clips

Hi, I have just been fitting my newly covered door cards and the genuine vw trim clips won't hold the cards in place. I have resorted to using fir tree clips for the rear door cards as they won't be removed again. (Hopefully) however I don't want to use them on the sliding door as that panel may need to be removed in the future. Any suggestions on alternative clips to use? As I say the vw ones just don't hold the panel in place. Very frustrating!

I have never used them but another member (sorry lost the post now so cannot give credit) recommended these, they seem to have a vast stock of clips - http://www.vehicleclips.co.uk/parts-by- ... agen.html/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That would be me. Very good customer service and although not open to public per say he is more than happy to let you come round and if you are near his shop in Newbury. He's very helpful an willing to talk it out over the phone or look at photos too.

Unbeilevably these work better than most panel clips and you get 30 for a quid! You just snip the pointed end off with sidecutters (fraction too long otherwise) and lightly screw it in until it just meets panel then stop.

If you're fitting plywood interior panels, ordinary clips are hopeless - they just pop out again. Only discovered by accident that these drywall fixings work brilliantly. :D

As long as you don't overtighten them, they hold fast. Only in cream colour though.

Got to say the fir tree clips are pretty hopeless at holding the sliding door panel on.

More bizarre is that the plasterboard fixings are better made and a fraction of the price of the other clips. I still have a bag of so-called T3 panel clips that just wouldn't hold. The only ones that are any good are those that splay out when you insert a plastic screw, as used on T4s etc, but again, they're SO overpriced.

Things get FAR worse if you try to fit plywood ones. :evil: although the plasterboard fixings seem to just about cope with plywood. The others just pinged across the other side of the van and laughed at me.

Well I have managed to get them to stay on. I still used the original clips but also put some rubber bungs in the holes first. Gives it more to grip too I guess.

Here they are: https://www.vwheritage.com/113857219a-b ... -bag-of-50" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You shouldnt need to use those if the original clips are being used for the front and sliding doors, your problem was maybe because the overall size of the newly covered door card was too big caused by much thicker material being used. The clips were designed for a thin vinyl covering. The door cards must sit into the shallow recess of the door.The card must sit close to the door, using thick material results in the clips being put under too much pressure and wanting to pop out. Using damaged clips will also cause problems, just use new ones if they are suspect in any way. the last owner of my caravelle had screwed the bottom of the sliding door panel on because the original clips were damaged and would not hold, looks terrible now.

Don't know if you got sorted. There's some cheap ones from china on ebay if you search screw in panel clips. They're 2 part plastic and a bugger to get out once in so I used the splay piece, to go in the hole, and then the shiny grub screws that hold hinges on a flat pack wardrobe. I can take them on and off as much as I want.
