Hi,
I have in the past read about the method of checking oil level.
Manual suggests " wait a few minutes after turning off engine". Just feel this is a tad vague.
For the life of me I've checked Wiki and many of the posts in technical, but can't find the post where this has been discussed.
Any ideas?

What idea do you wish for? A few minutes? - a couple of minutes is 2 minutes, a few minutes would be 3 or more.
What sort of discussion do you wish to have/are you looking for?
How long to leave it after switching off?
How to read the oil level on the dipstick?

And there's me thinking people on this forum were helpful.
I did not want to insult people's intelligence, and explain the obvious, only remember I think, you do not check oil level ( via the dipstick) cold, but allow about 15 minutes after turning off a warm engine.
Just for interest what the general consensus.

You have 5 vehicles yet you are asking how to check the oil level? How do you check oil in any vehicle - if the engine has been running leave it a few minutes to drain down first. I cannot see what the difficulty is here. ( If you have an engine with a dry sump though you have to check the level in the oil tank)

I have to say that I cannot understand what the problem with understanding the manual is. As said, a few minutes is obvious: 2 or 3 minutes. Leave it a few more and the difference in the level will be negligible. And tbh, the difference in checking the oil level hot or cold will, too, be negligible. If you leave the engine for even just a minute after running it the level you read on the dipstick will be a near enough guide. The reason you leave it for a few minutes is to allow the oil to run down from the internals of the engine to drain into the sump. Obviously I am talking about checking the oil after you've had the oil changed previously, rather than checking it just as you have done an oil change. This is a general synopsis. If you want to be absolutely precise then you should measure the amount of oil you put in at an oil change. Checking afterwards will never be 100% accurate but being sensible as long as you are between low and high oil level you are OK. Obviously you are better to have the level up to the top mark to allow for oil loss as you drive the many miles to your hols. I stand to be corrected.
