Clicking speedo and PCB

Hi all

Slightly odd one this but out of nothing my speedo/speedo needle has started making a loud (and very annoying :x ) clicking noise as it works its way up the dial. Has anyone else experienced this, or know if its symptomatic of something? The vans a 1982 but with a scooby conversion.

I've taken the dashpod out and removed the speedo and its components as far as I can to check its all okay and everything seems fine. Did manage to snap the PCB between the speedo light and the main section though whilst doing this  . Is this a worry, other than the light over the speedo not working?

Thanks for any help.

Does the needle bounce much? Just try taking the Speedo connection off the back and give it a wiggle.

Only lost the light, no big deal :-)

Cheers Slowcoach. Thought it'd just be the light so that's good!

Yeah the need bounces quite a lot until you hit around 40/50mph+ when it settles down and the noise is better. Have given the connector at the back a wiggle and had it off/on a few times without any joy. I wandered whether changing the speedo cable might help but I can't see why it should really. Is it possible it's worn hence it not rotating smoothly?

Mine did that. Dribbled oil down the dash end, in the hope that it would go down the inside and smooth things out. A few weeks later all was well.

Try looking at the other end - the cable may well be jumping around in a worn square hole in the grease cap.
