New Noise Tappets?

Hi
Was running fine. Started her after just over a week and there was an awful noise, which after reading the forum was suggested to be the hydraulic tappets..
Changed oil and filer to no avail, still the same.

1.9 petrol running lpg.

Brought up to temperature, resisted taking out for a run just in case it makes matters worse..

Am at a loss...

just changing the oil won't work
drive it till the noise goes.
You won't do any harm

What they say^^

give it a good run until proper hot minimum of 30 mins will sort it.

It's perfectly normal for a engine that has been stood....
scary when you first experience it, but take it for a drive , don't thrash it, just drive it , 10 miles should be enough

Image the noise with all 8 doing it, happened to me after I lost all my sump oil when the plug rattled out on the motorway

I refilled with oil and it sounded like the engine was destroyed but it wasn't just empty tappets.

Quick update
Took her out for a run, after a short distance the noise went and she now purrs like she did before...
The difference is unbelievable...

Remind me not to consider buying your van if you ever want to sell it.

IMO it did no harm at all, that van has got another engine now, the engine did another 40,000 miles after and got rebuilt at 100k into a DJ which is now in my other van :D

Just goes to show what resilient beasts they can be. If I did that with my Mk6 Golf it would be toast.

Some of you guys may be interested to know that wassereboxer engines have always suffered from tappet drain down. It was extremely common to drive a brand new T3 from the new car storage area behind our VAG dealership in Nottingham up to the worshop for PDI, rattling exactly like they do now and absolutely not going away until they were given a good thrashing on road test.
If you heard a load tappet rattle coming up the yard it was always a T3 wasserboxer, nothing else...
