Rubber or Vinyl

I've finished building a subfloor (only 2cm gap) and will be laying some thin (possibly 6mm) plywood in the next few days.

I need to decide on the final flooring material and have narrowed it down to either rubber or vinyl.

I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on the pros and cons of the two. Also, if I go for rubber, has anyone any experience of using the standard spot tread rubber?

I also need to think about how I am going to create a hatch or lift-off panel for the engine compartment. What do most people do? A separate rectangle of board with vinyl/rubber glued to the outside or a hinged panel?

Any advice will be much appreciated :)

I have 4mm rubber on my floor with loose mats over the top
The only thing against the rubber is its fecking cold to bare feet !
Other than that it's perfect and easy to clean

Did you find it easy to cut with a Stanley knife or did it crumble at all?

Rubber great over rear area (ie over engine lid) but way too cold in middle section. Vinyl also far easier to keep clean.

Rubber is harder wearing than viynly if that is a consideration.

Winch weight has foam rubber tiles on his, very warm to touch, sally no good for us had dogs claws would soon scratch in the surface else we would have copied his idea. Vinyl for us, easy to clean and easy to fit

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will be going for vinyl if I can actually find some. Not much call for it in Spain.

I put tiles down from MadMatz and they are great - then got a rug for on top for the dogs
